Woodturning: Hollowform with Woodcut Pro-Forme tools
Making an elm hollowform with Woodcut Pro-Forme tools!
This is absolutely one of my favorites things: making hollowform vases! And i just bought this awesome Woodcut Pro-Forme hollowing system and it is by far the best I've tried. It's super stable, high quality and just super effective.. And super expensive, but whatever. You get what you pay for. That's just how it is. Turning this vessel on my Killinger 1450SE woodturning lathe.
Recently, I got a few nice elm logs (Ulmus glabra) and thought it would be about time to make a bigger vessel. Elm is really unforgiving.. You make tool handles of this and it's hard! It's also tough as it's fed up with silica that is hard on the tools. They need sharpening waaay more than the usual trees I work with. And this took me a full day.. Haha, as you can see in the end, I struggle to keep the tool steady, because of the distance from the tool rest to the tip of the tool. There's so much tension and power that you'll end up beaten if you aren't focusing.
Now this piece needs to dry for 4-6 weeks.

11:10 - Oh, the struggle is real..
11:28 - Measuring over and over, all the time
11:49 - Done..
12:13 - Wrap it up for 48 hours
12:47 - and then in a paperbag for 4-6 weeks

Spooncarving: sourcing spoon blanks with hand tools in the forest
Переглядів 5 тис.3 роки тому
Sourcing some birch spoon blanks in the forest. Woodworking, bushcraft, slow living and maker movement! One thing I really like about slöjd and traditional crafts is that you (mostly) get your material from your surroundings. This is a small forest very close to where I live. So why not go out and do some exercise/manual labor, sawing, axing and carrying logs and blanks around like there was no...

Green woodworking, slöjd, carving a spoon at that place. I brought my carving kit and a few roughed out spoon in maple. Carved this while the kids were out playin...

      Hello 🙂 This one is 6-7 years old I think, so I’m not sure it’s possible to find. But contact MoraKniv and ask.. they might have something in stock. They are pretty nice.

    Great video, I have a T8, 2 questions, how come you didn't use the red marker on the blade first? And you didn't stropp the knife?

    • @formgjortbyJonasAls
      @formgjortbyJonasAls Місяць тому

      Hello Raymond Thanks for the question. Well, I think I decided to set the angle at 22 degrees (2 x 14, if I remember correctly), and from that proceeded. And next, you don’t have to strop after using the Japanese stone, as it is way more fine than the honing paste. Among a few things I did wrong in this video years ago, I used way too much much time on sharpening it, and I now know that when sharpening with a Tormek, you have to do the following: 5-10 continuous passes each on each side, then followed by 5-10 strokes one side at the time (switching side every single pass), and so you keep minimising the burr until it brakes off leaving a super razor sharp edge. Does that make sense?

    Bonjour et merci de cette vidéo instructive et très utile. Ôter le biseau est assez convaincant. Les copeaux sont plus grands et en effet plus lisses. Pourquoi alors Mora vend-il des couteaux croche biseauté, ainsi que les couteaux droits de sculpture biseautés ? Il est assez compliqué d’affûter un couteau croche à la pierre. Votre technique paraît préférable. Merci pour vos retours et pour le partage. Michèle
